Orthopaedics & Surgical Specialties - Ward 3B
Ward 3B is an acute ward dealing with orthopaedic, surgical specialties and minor specialties such as gynaecology, ear nose and throat (ENT), and eyes. We have 30 beds and are open 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week.
We have dedicated staff who are committed to providing high quality care to our patients including resource nurses for all our specialty surgery, health and safety, dysphagia and wound care management.
We are a Releasing Time to Care (RTC) ward and are also implementing Care Capacity Demand Management (CCDM) within the ward.
Releasing Time to Care
RTC is a programme developed by the English National Health Service (NHS) being successfully implemented in DHBs throughout New Zealand. The aim of the programme is to free up time in our nurses' day so they can increase the amount of time they have for direct patient care and improve the safety, reliability and efficiency of the care delivered to the patient.
Care Capacity Demand Management
CCDM is an organisational approach that ensures the right number of skilled staff are in the right place at the right time, with appropriate resources to meet patients' needs (demand) and deliver safe, effective and efficient care.
Visiting hours are between 2pm to 8pm daily. Visitors are asked not to visit if suffering from an infection and to avoid visiting during the tea period, 5-6pm.
We are situated on level three of the main ward block at Base Hospital.
